Watermark Principal Karen Sinclair becomes a member of FICPI’s commission CET Group 10.
17 July 2008
FICPI Australia is an association of a parent international body – FICPI (Federation Internationale  Des Conseils En Propriete Industrielle) which has a growing membership of approximately 3800 intellectual property attorneys in over 80 countries. FICPI Australia members are all registered patent attorneys, or registered patent and trade marks attorneys in Australia, and partners or principals in patent attorney firms conducting business in Australia.  FICPI works and consults with international bodies such as the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and various national and regional patent offices to monitor and enhance the intellectual property systems and IP protection and enforcement procedures generally, and aims to foster international cooperation within the free IP profession.
FICPI conducts its activities through voluntary member participation, and its functions and activities are the responsibility of specific commissions and committees. By far the largest commission is the ‘Commission d'Étude et de Travail’, the Study & Work Commission, in short CET.
The CET is responsible for the supervision and examination of developments in international and national legislation as well as for the preparation of opinions by FICPI that are presented to relevant authorities. The CET has specialist groups concerned with various aspects of IP, such as trade marks, designs and copyright, international patent questions, European patent law, biotechnology and dispute settlement, including litigation and arbitration. The successful functioning of the CET and its groups relies on input, dedication and hard work from its members. Membership is open to all members of FICPI Australia, with the approval of its Executive Council.
The latest group to be formed, CET Group 10, is mostly concerned with areas of IP Asset Management, such as Licensing; Technology Transfer; Acquisitions; Divestiture and Mergers; Due Diligence; Collaborations; Freedom to Operate; IP Asset Valuation; IP Ownership Issues; and IP Insurance.
It is with great pleasure that Watermark announces the appointment of Karen Sinclair to CET Group 10. Karen joins her fellow Principal Christian Schieber who as member of CET Group 4 participates in commenting on and monitoring European patent law developments.
