It's thumbs-up for GM Canola

7 December 2007
The following links relate to the recent lift in the ban to grow genetically modified (GM) canola in NSW and Victoria. Although products containing GM canola are already on the shelves, GM canola will be the first genetically altered food crop available for farmers to grow in Australia. The genetic modification that has been performed results in an increased tolerance to herbicides, which can now be applied directly thereby improving crop yields. It is feared that this tolerance may spread to canola relatives considered to be weeds making them harder to control…only time will tell.
