New Official Search System for Australian Patent Information
16 June 2008

The Australian Patent Office recently launched AusPat, a new system for obtaining status information and specifications relating to Australian pending and granted patents.

Significantly, the new system provides:

  • a single point of enquiry, whereas previously information was accessed directly through two separate databases (PatAdmin and PatSearch); and
  • in many cases, a link from the application details screen through to any corresponding specifications.

Unfortunately, some detailed status information and specifications remain available only directly from other databases, and very little information is available in respect of applications filed prior to 1979.

Prior to using AusPat, we recommend consulting the user guide and release notes available from the website.

Please do not hesitate to contact your Watermark attorney for assistance or further information.
