No Rock Tables nabs prestigious international design award

No Rock Table Technology has received the highest international design award in its category, the prestigious Red Dot Award, it was announced this week in Milan.

No Rock Table Technology, created by entrepreneur, Chris Heyring, and his team, uses an elegantly simple mechanical system with four pivoting legs that are interconnected in such a way that they must reach an average weight loading on all four feet. When a café table is placed on an uneven surface, the feet will move until all four feet reach a state of equilibrium or stability, preventing wobbling and associated drinks spillages.

Watermark’s Mark Pullen, who has been advising Chris Heyring and his team on patents and trade marks for over 10 years, said that he was delighted to see No Rock Table Technology achieve the international kudos associated with the Red Dot Design Award. ‘It is incredibly rewarding to work with such a dedicated team and be part of the journey from an idea’s inception to its commercialisation and award-winning recognition’, he said.

The Red Dot Design Award, which has been running since 1955, has become the largest and most renowned design competition in the world, receiving over 11,000 entries from 61 countries every year.

The jury comprises internationally renowned designers and experts whose judging criteria includes degree of innovation, functionality and quality. The accolade of the Red Dot Design Award, the ‘Red Dot’, is an internationally recognised quality label for excellence in design.

Chris Heyring is no stranger to successful innovation. His previous achievements include the successful Kinetic Suspension Systems and Nauti-Craft Marine Suspension. Kinetic Suspension Systems have been used by some of the world’s leading automotive companies such as Toyota, Nissan and McLaren, and Nauti-Craft is well advanced in designing marine vessels under license for use in the recreational and offshore workboat markets in Europe and the Middle East.

Mr Heyring says the basic functionality of a No Rock table base is closely related to the hydraulic systems used by Kinetic or Nauti-Craft, however, No Rock table bases have been developed to work as purely mechanical systems.

“The problem of rocking café tables had bugged me for years and I always thought there must be a simple mechanical solution based on the 4 point support systems I had invented for the automotive business,” said Chris Heyring.

The result is a stylish yet robust table base design that has been patented in Australia and overseas and that is guaranteed put an end to spilt coffee.
